Estate Planning

We work primarily with clients and their families to develop estate plans that meet our clients' objectives. Every client is different, and therefore every estate plan is different. We do not believe in using boilerplate legal forms, and we take pride in the legal documents we draft for our clients. We have seen firsthand the problems with legal documents produced in haste by a person with an online legal form. The problems the non-lawyer seeks to avoid are almost always not avoided when a lawyer is not consulted and an online legal form is used. The 2022 estate planning rules raising the estate tax exemption to $12.06 million dollars has changed implications for many high net-worth asset persons, but many basic estate considerations remain extremely relevant. Whether you are 30 years old with a young family or 80 years old, if you have capacity to execute legal documents, an estate plan including a will, financial power of attorney, and healthcare directive are absolute must-haves for every person.

Basic Estate Planning Package: $750-$1,000
Will, Financial/Property Power of Attorney and Health Care Directive

Advanced Estate Planning Package: $2,500-$3,500
Trust, Pour-Over Will, Financial/Property Power of Attorney, and Health Care Directive

Complex Estate Planning Package: Starting at $3,500
Complex Trust Instruments and Accompanying Will, Power of Attorney, and Health Care Directive

Estate and Trust Administration

When a person dies (for probate or estate administration) or when certain conditions are met (for trust administration, coming of age, a death of a last lineal heir, or other condition), a personal representative, estate administrator, or trustee will often need to go through the probate court to close out an estate or to ensure a trust is properly terminated and funded. Our firm understands the difficult time you and your family may be experiencing with the loss of a loved one. Also, after such a loss, family dynamics may sometimes shift and cause once calm relationships to quickly shift into hostile relationships filled with distrust. Our firm works with you to ensure that your loved one's estate or trust is correctly and efficiently probated from start to finish.

Cost of Probate, Estate, or Trust Administration: $2,500-$3,000 retainer

Estate and Trust Litigation

Litigation is a passion at our firm. We are never more at home than when we are in a courtroom. However, we understand that not every estate and probate case requires litigation. We work hard to resolve matters through peaceable meals before initiating legal proceedings in probate court or circuit court to handle an estate matter. We excel at trial work (both jury and non-jury trials), and we have recovered thousands of dollars for our clients to prove it. The firm has experience representing a broad cross section of individuals and companies and knows probate and civil procedure equally well. We are licensed to practice in state, federal, and appellate courts statewide.
